Cover crop influence on soil water dynamics for a corn–soybean rotation
نویسندگان
چکیده
Crop production is reduced by insufficient and/or excess soil water, which can significantly decrease plant growth and development. Therefore, conservation management practices such as cover crops (CCs) are used to optimize water dynamics, since CCs conserve water. The objective of this study was determine the effects on dynamics a corn (Zea mays L.)–soybean [Glycine max (L.) Merr.] rotation at three depths over 3 yr. conducted Chariton County Cover Soil Health Research Demonstration Farm (CCSH) in Missouri. Initial CC establishment occurred 2012. Volumetric content (VWC) monitored 15-min intervals with calibrated Waterscout SM100 moisture sensors (Spectrum Technologies) (10, 20, 30 cm) 2016, 2017, 2018. crop soils maintained numerically higher VWC values compared no (NCC) both 10- 20-cm throughout period where differences were significant some weeks. subsurface recharge greater NCC March 2017. results imply that have levels during vegetative weeks all depths. These findings be promote adoption for better storage develop plans corn–soybean rotations claypan soils.

Influence of Crop Rotation and Cover Crop on Fusarium Head Blight of Wheat
Fusarium head blight (FHB) of small grains tends to be associated with certain environmental conditions, especially rain-induced wetness periods occurring near anthesis. متن کاملCrop Rotation Impact on Soil Quality
Management systems influence soil quality over time. A study was carried out on Vanmeter farm of the Ohio State University South Centers at Piketon Ohio, USA to evaluate the impact of crop rotations on soil quality from 2002 to 2007. The crop rotations comprised of continuous corn (CC), corn-soybean (CS) and corn–soybean-wheat-cowpea (CSW). Ten soil cores were collected at 0-7.5, 7.5-15, 15-22....
متن کاملCrop rotation and soil temperature influence the community structure of Aspergillus flavus in soil
Aspergillus flavus, the most important cause of aflatoxin contamination, has two major morphotypes commonly termed ‘S’ and ‘L’ strains. Strain S isolates, on average, produce more aflatoxins than the strain L isolates. The S strain has been implicated as the primary causal agent of several contamination events in both North America and Africa. Strain S incidence and A. flavus propagules were qu...
متن کاملEffects of crop residue cover and architecture on heat and water transfer at the soil surface
Different residue types and standing stubble versus distributed flat residues affect heat and water transfer at the soil surface to varying degrees. Understanding the effects of various residue configurations can assist in better residue management decisions, but this is complex due to various interacting influences. Therefore, modeling the effects of crop residues on heat and water movement ca...
متن کاملTopography Mediates the Influence of Cover Crops on Soil Nitrate Levels in Row Crop Agricultural Systems.
Supplying adequate amounts of soil N for plant growth during the growing season and across large agricultural fields is a challenge for conservational agricultural systems with cover crops. Knowledge about cover crop effects on N comes mostly from small, flat research plots and performance of cover crops across topographically diverse agricultural land is poorly understood. Our objective was to...
